Describe: On Monday, a guest speaker came and spoke to our class. His name was Mr. Barry and he was an educator from Seton hospital. His presentation was about feedback. He spoke about ways to give positive and constructive feedback as well as ways to accept feedback in a positive way.
Analyze: listening to Mr. Barry talk was a really good experience because he made many points that I have never thought about before. The idea that most stands out in my mind is the importance of word choice. He talked about the word “but” and how it serves as a way to negate anything that you have said up until that point. He also talked about removing “critical” from our vocabulary and replacing it with “constructive feedback.”
Reflection: I feel that this will help me because it will make me more conscious of how I sound to students when I am giving them feedback as well to others when I am receiving feedback. I will be able to use feedback in a way that will help students become better learners.
